Andrew Richard James graduated with a Philosophy degree from Brigham Young University in 2017 and emulated the values of the department in both his personal and professional life.
A bright young mind, Andrew was always keen to engage in philosophical debate, seeking to discern through lively conversation how people understood virtue and goodness. His ability to think clearly and present logically were unmatched.
Andrew’s colleagues at Jones Day law firm in Washington DC, where he worked as a project manager and paralegal in their Issues and Appeals group, describe him as having quickly earned their supreme trust and confidence in matters of importance. He was their top choice for completing filings with various State, US District, and Supreme Courts, and considered by those who worked alongside him the uniting thread that held the machine together.
Andrew was a dedicated student, but a master at maintaining balance between school, work, family, and friends. He exhibited humor and grace, continually demonstrating through his interactions that relationships far outweigh personal achievements.
At just 28 years old, he left behind an extraordinary legacy of excellence. It is the desire of all those involved in this scholarship, generously endowed by loving friends, co-workers, and family, that Andrew’s memory and legacy of learning continue, and be a catalyst for growth for many individuals, blessing them and their future families for generations to come.
